Living with chronic back pain causes you to miss out on the best parts of life. The stiffness, loss of mobility, and physical pain leaves you unable to perform the activities you once loved, and correcting the condition is extremely important to us.
At CEDA Orthopedics & Interventional Medicine, our top priority is to relieve you from your chronic neck or back pain and get you back to the full lifestyle you deserve. We have become leaders in minimally invasive spine surgery with laser, which is a commonly preferred alternative to traditional open back or neck surgery.
If you suffer from chronic pain in the neck or back and have not found lasting relief in the treatments you have gone through, we strongly encourage our minimally invasive spinal procedure. This article will explain further how our minimally invasive surgeries, including those with laser, can relieve the pain caused by your condition.
Minimally Invasive Decompression Surgery
One of the most common procedures we perform is minimally invasive decompression surgery. This is often done on patients that are suffering from a compressed nerve along their spinal cord, which causes excruciating pain. While this condition can be caused by a number of things, it is usually the result of one of the conditions listed below:
- Bulging Disk
- Herniated Disk
- Spinal Stenosis
- Arthritis of the spine
- Bone Spurs
- Annular Tear
- Foraminal Stenosis
- Facet Disease
Our minimally invasive surgical procedures allow our skilled surgeons to enter the site of the injury or condition through an incision less than 1 inch long. Through this opening, they will remove the affected area that is compressing the nerve within your spinal cord. Once our surgeons decompress the nerve, the incision is closed and we move the patient into a separate recovery room. Our patients are oftentimes able to leave the same day as the surgery was performed!
Would you like to learn more about our minimally invasive surgeries involving laser? Please take a look below for a brief description on each:
Foraminotomy (laser assisted)
In order to relieve pressure on the nerves exiting the spinal cord, a procedure called foraminotomy is performed. Conditions that often require this procedure include bulging disks, scar tissue, bone spurs, herniated disks, ligament thickening, and facet hypertrophy.
Discectomy (laser assisted)
This procedure is often performed on a section of herniated or bulging disk which is pressing on the root of a nerve or the spinal cord. Our expert surgical team utilize extremely small cameras to locate the point of nerve compression, removing it without affecting or destabilizing the spine at all.
Laminotomy (laser assisted)
A treatment commonly used as a way to relieve pressure being put on the spinal cord. Several conditions can be approached surgically through the laminotomy treatment, such as bulging discs, bone spurs, scar tissue, facet hypertrophy, hypertrophy of the ligamentum flavum, and spinal stenosis which is caused by a herniated disk.
Facet Thermal Ablation (laser based)
This procedure is performed in order to deaden painful nerves in the facet joint via laser. If you are experiencing chronic pain and have become less mobile in the neck and back due to arthritis, your pain can be relieved with this minimally invasive procedure.
